Pre Production Unit - The Green Light Pitch

Since the idea was in development and the ball was rolling, it was important to start preparing for a pitch we had coming up to the class and Simon. It is important to pitch as we are able to get relevant feedback from the course about the idea and what direction we should think about heading in. Me and Andreya sat down together and produced a powerpoint that we can show to the class with all the relavent details. You can view the powerpoint below:

We feel the presentation has got a style to it and we purposely did that to reflect the elegance and beauty of the film. We wanted people to get a feel of what the film will look like and reflected that in the colours and images we chose to show on the slide.

The powerpoint contains all the relevant information that we needed to show explaining everything we had worked on so far. We opened with a title page. Its called ravel at the moment as we feel the word connects well with the film and the unraveling of the main characters life. The title is big and bold so that it can be easily read along with a nice striking font. We then added a picture of a male contemporary dancer as we feel this relects our storyline focusing on a main male character in this profession. From here we move onto the next slide which talks about the idea. We included the 25 word pitch at the top to give an overview of the film and then short bulletpoints that we expanded on and talked more in detail about each one. In order to give eveyone an idea about contemporary dance and its emotion I felt it was important to put an example in showing how expressive the dance is. We used one that inspired the story which can be found on the next slide. Following this, since I have talked about the idea I then wanted to explain the characters. Since casting is still in progress at this stage I decided to use the pictures that I looked at in terms of character looks so that people would be able to have an idea of what they will look like like and a breakdown of their traits. This then moved onto casting where I talked about the adverts that had been put out and where we were at the current stage.

Audience was the next slide. We explained the type of people who we are aiming the show towards in terms of age and also the platform that it will be shown on which at this point is Netflix. Since locations are still in progress, I again used the images that inspired me in terms of relevence to the story and explained what stage we are at with this researching different areas. I then wanted to make sure we talked about our roles and what we were looking to achieve. I spoke about my specific directing style and producing in terms of budgeting and casting followed by Andreya explaining her responsibilities. Lastly we explained why we have chosen to do this project speaking about its relevance and differences that having wanted us to take on this challenge.

Overall I felt we pitched really well. The class and Simon really liked the idea and the challenge of incorporating contemporary dance into a storyline. We had feedback that we need to work on expanding our casting and contacting dance studios as well as making sure the dancing doesnt look out of place as the story runs and I will ensure to work on this.
