Pre Production Unit - Initial Ideas & Development

Myself and Andreya have been brainstorming ideas for the kind of film we want to make. We first of all decided to have an overview of the work we have completed on the course so far. We looked at all the previous films we had made together and looked at what really stood out for us. Our first thoughts were a documentary and carrying on with something like event hop. We felt that this would be interesting as we could continue to travel across some of the country looking at more unique and interesting events that we can look at. After researching some events and different things we could do, we both felt that we would have trouble organising this project to have enough content for 20 minutes. We also felt that it was something we had already done and I wanted to do something a bit different. We went back to the drawing board and looked into some work that Andreya had done at college. There was a video she had recorded for the school of a dance show. This inspired us in thinking that the use of dance is something we have never looked at before and could be really interesting when tieing it into a fictional/ experimental type piece. We began to look at dance videos on the internet and contemporary dance was something that really stood out for us. You can see a video below of one we was looking at called No Ordinary Love by Kara Marni:

After looking at this video it really inspired me to think of narrative and how contemporary dance can be encorporated to show passion and emotion. I wanted to ensure I had some in depth characters with layers and as I planned the narrative the layers kept developing. You can see some examples of my development work below as it went from a rough story to a developed structure:

Once I had developed a rough storyline that I could envision I realised that this was more of an emotional drama with experiemetal scenes thrown in with the dancing added to it. I am continuing to develop this story coming up with a suitable ending for the film and will then be able to write a treatment for it. Myself and Andreya are very happy with this idea and believe this will make a great final product when finishing it.
